Does that explain my symptoms better? ;pI can&#039;t run startx because I have an X session going already in the 7th VT.  Can I close it somehow? I will try adding a new user, though, at least I can do that from tty1...]]></description>

You can run a successful KDE session without kdm if you run startx, and then startkde. The only thing that&#039;s missing if you do that is the &quot;shutdown&quot; and &quot;restart&quot; commands on the logout menu.I don&#039;t think the display manager should affect *box*recites his freenode #kde mantra* Have you tried it with a new user?]]></description>
