Linux, IM, movies, and stuff
Linux
I’m not going to do so now, but I want at some point to write some comments/mini-reviews on the following: Xfce, Fluxbox, IceWM, NDISwrapper/wpa_supplicant/Wi-Fi on Linux; all of these I’ve had some experience with recently…
IM
I’m trying to make a comeback to MSN, having basically never logged on since coming to uni (it does tend to suck a heck of a lot of time away); I’m also trying to increase my list of GTalk and Skype contacts – so if you’ve got either, I’m ‘philosophicles@gmail.com’ and ‘Philosophicles’, respectively. Do go on and add me…
Movies
Recently, I’ve seen:
- Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, which is pretty crap
- Ocean’s Thirteen, which is pretty good fun, especially for a triquel (sp?), but not half as good as O11; I’ve not seen O12 but apparently it’s better than that…
- Die Hard 4.0, which, even before you consider that it’s the fourth of a franchise, is really, really quite cool. It’s much more what you expect from a DH movie than DH3:DWAV was (i.e. baddie repeateded sends goon(s) and/or Difficult Problems after Willis, Willis repeatedly defeats/outwits/shoots/kills/blows-up/solves goon(s)/Difficult Problems s.t. baddie thinks Willis is dead, for a while…) and has lots of cool, if totally unbelieveable (it’s an action movie based on a late-80s idea, what do you expect?) effects/stunts. Critics have said, rightly, that it seems a little fish-out-of-water-esque given how much Action has moved on since the last three – but I like the fact that it sticks to how the genre was when the other Die Hards were being made. Basically, go see this movie while it’s big-screen – well worth it!
Stuff
Things are progressing nicely at the Hearing Labs – I’ve got plenty of subjects on the go, and data coming in steadily… while having enough spare time to write this
. Starting to think about my research project for next year, and also doing a summer essay for my supervisor, oh, and making the 2007 ACTS Guide. Webside design/admin as mentioned in previous posts is having to wait, as is society constitution writing… I only have so much time in the evenings!
Already said via. IM but wrt Movies – *cough* Cambridge Film Festival *cough*
